Body Discovered in Search for Missing Colorado College Student

Megan Trussell was last seen in her residence hall on Feb. 9.

Authorities searching for missing University of Colorado Boulder student Megan Trussell, who was last seen on Feb. 9, have recovered a body matching her description in a remote area of Boulder Canyon, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Officials have not yet confirmed the individual’s identity, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin, the sheriff’s office said in a statement Saturday. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

The body was located in difficult-to-access terrain, requiring a technical rescue operation that involved rappelling, according to the statement. City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers first reported the discovery at 10:41 a.m. on Saturday.

To facilitate the investigation and recovery efforts, Boulder Canyon Drive was temporarily closed. Authorities cited hazardous road conditions caused by the weather as an additional safety concern for first responders working at the scene.

Trussell was last seen in her residence hall wearing a blue/grey jacket, dark-colored yoga pants, and white platform sneakers, according to the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department. Campus police have been collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the search for Trussell.
